The Team

Shirley StuartShirley Stuart

Parks Officer

The role of Parks Officer certainly take me places, looking after a variety of reserves and also playgrounds in  Dunedin and surrounding areas. It has been a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the green areas of the city and further extend my skills and experience. Having worked previously in the Botanic Garden, I’ve been fortunate to continue working in such beautiful surroundings  with awesome people.

Sean LeeSean Lee

Web Team Leader, Communications and Marketing

My role is a leadership one. I’m responsible for making sure that we provide excellent web services that enhance the way we communicate and inform the public.

I like the diversity of people and the variety of work they do, as well as the opportunity to contribute to building the city.

I love living in Dunedin because it’s safe, small and sociable. The melting pot of heritage architecture, natural beauty and different cultures adds a character to the city that makes it different from other centres I have lived in. Dunedin provides a great lifestyle.

Asset Management Officer

I travelled halfway across the world and arrived in Dunedin. Very quickly, I got a job doing temporary work in reception and administration, progressing to a Project Support Co-ordinator role. I am now the Asset Management Officer in Parks and Recreation Services, dealing with asset information, system maintenance, insurance, project work and lots more! I’ve learnt so much being here. Dunedin is a great place, full of friendly people, economical to live in, has breath taking scenery and no traffic jams!

Group Manager Water and Waste

My job in Water and Waste Services is to be responsible for Dunedin’s drinking water, stormwater, wastewater and solid waste and I love that no two days are the same.

Having worked for one of the UK’s largest water and wastewater companies, I took my BSc in Biology and Physical Geography, my PhD in glaciology and glacial hydrochemistry and my MBA and came to New Zealand in 2008.

While moving across the world to a City I had never been to, in a country I had only visited once, with a partner who had never been to the Southern Hemisphere was certainly a risky decision, it’s one we will be forever glad we made.

Here I feel I can offer my daughter the kind of childhood she couldn’t have experienced in the UK; Quality family time, the outdoors and room to breathe. As a Brit, I even think the weather is great!

As a qualified botanist, I support and maintain the botanical integrity of our wonderful Botanical Garden here in Dunedin. This includes maintaining strong relationships with local and international scientific communities. It’s an incredibly busy and varied job from overseeing plant records to dealing with the public.

Born and raised in Dunedin, it’s a lovely small city with so much to offer!
